Keeping Race Fans Sun Safe

If you filled the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) to capacity 12 times, you’d see the number of Americans diagnosed with skin cancer every year. That’s about three and a half million people. Each May, upward of 300,000 race fans stream into IMS to enjoy the historic Indianapolis 500, the largest one-day sporting event in the world. Teaming with IMS, Outrun the Sun developed a sun safety program to help keep those fans protected while visiting the track.

Every year sun safety messages are broadcast on video boards, on the IMS Radio Network, and appear in the event program. They feature IndyCar champion, Josef Newgarden, who encourages fans to be sun safe. Sunscreen is available to fans who also receive UV-sensitive wristbands at main entry gates.

This year celebrates the 106th running of the Indy 500 and OTS looks forward to engaging fans of all ages in what has become the largest one-day sun safety initiative in the world.
